Meet Fatou Niang, our first community spotlighter—a NYC-based Senegalese talent whose portfolio extends far beyond modest fashion. Actress, model, and undeniable screen presence, chances are you’ve caught a glimpse of her work (once or twice… or, if you’re like us, at least five times).
Known for her signature approach to muted tones and timeless silhouettes, Fatou is the queen of playing it safe with style. But this week, we nudged her out of her comfort zone, inviting her to share her thoughts on boldness in modest dressing.
Consider this your exclusive peek into what happens when effortless elegance meets a daring twist.
The theme for this week is Bold Colors. We're trying to get the girls to hang up their black clothes and hijabs and take on modest fashion challenges every week. What accessories do you believe every outfit needs?
Definitely rings for sure. If the outfit calls for it, and if there's room? Wear bracelets.
When it comes to wearing bold colors, what are some style tips you have?
If you are going to wear a bold color, let that be a statement piece, but make sure the other colors around it compliments it. Not a color that is going to clash. It helps to take the time and play with things. Wear the clothes and try it out and see how the colors work together. Usually I’ll spend a good amount of time trying things out. If it helps, look up colors that work well together or your favorite creators and brands to see how they put colors together!

What are some fashion trends you currently love?
I really love barrel jeans, vintage clothes, and dress shirts. Only because you can manipulate it into different shapes. Especially oversized dress shirts.

Fatou reminds us that boldness is not about drowning in color, it is about intention, balance, and a touch of play. From barrel jeans to oversized dress shirts and rings that always seal the deal, her style philosophy proves that modest fashion can be both effortless and daring. Whether she is shopping at Daily Paper or scrolling SheIn for budget gems, Fatou makes one thing clear: it is not where you shop, it is how you wear it. If we learned anything from her this week, it is that sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone is the most stylish move of all.
And speaking of stepping out of your comfort zone…this week’s challenge is all about color. We are asking you to hang up the black-on-black looks for a moment (yes, even your trusty black hijab) and play with shades that highlight your undertone and personality. Here is how to get started:
Minimize black this week. Your black hijab and clothes are tired, sis. Give them a little break.
Figure out your undertone. Are you cool, warm, or neutral? This is the key to finding colors that truly flatter you.
Be creative. Try bold accents, surprising pairings, or even a pop of color in your accessories.
Because at the end of the day, modest fashion should be fun, fresh, and full of you. Make sure to tag us in your pics! IG: @veiledvisionaries_
