Salaam VeiledBesties!

It’s 2026! Are you excited for what the new year has to bring? Cause I know we are! In January, let’s start styling and moving with intention.

No more saying “I don’t know what to wear.” We’ll share ways on how to be modest, elegant, chic, and stylish. This year, we’ve got you covered (literally), and we can’t wait to share all of our exciting plans with you all.

This month on Covered In Style, we’re stepping into the world of Elevated Streetwear (yes, this is the next level of dressing streetwear).

People do not usually think of the hijab when it comes to streetwear. Dressing modestly is more than an abaya. As long as your awrah is covered, you’re good, sis! We do not have to exclude our culture when it comes to the fabrics we place on our bodies. The appearance of the hijab is more vast than many think. Trust me, sister, by the end of reading this blog, you will be wowed by the uniqueness and diversity of modesty.

Wait! Before we get into it:

Don’t forget this week’s challenge at the end! Where you can apply all the tips and tricks we give you to your daily lives this month.

Let’s get into it →

Meet Jumanaah Salaam — A woman who dresses modestly and boldly.

Jumanaah isn’t just a modest fashion girl. Her presence causes people to reframe what modesty means. She is chic, but edgy. With her out-of-this-world prints, color combinations, and feminine style, she is always bound to turn heads.

Modesty isn’t boring, but simple. When you see Jumanaah, no one will ever mistake her for someone else. Her vibe, her energy, and her style can be equated to a fingerprint - no one else has the same one.

That’s the beauty of fashion. That’s the beauty of modesty. Eyes are on you, but not because we seek attention - it’s because when you dress, your aura and style already speak for you before you open your mouth when entering a room.

The theme for this week is ‘Elevated Streetwear’. What does ‘Elevated Streetwear’ style mean to you, especially with modesty?

Me personally, I will define elevated streetwear as chic but edgy. When I think of elevated streetwear, I honestly think about New York. For an example, a lot of women in New York are bosses & entrepreneurs. They out here grinding! Which matches my personality and personal style, I being sophisticated , classy, business, but also have that edge.

What elements do you focus on when transforming everyday streetwear pieces into looks that feel refined and intentional?

I think certain pieces can help you elevate certain elements. For example, accessories. You can never go wrong with sunglasses - they can make a basic look turn into a fashion-forward look. You can transform your outfit from regular streetwear, but also make it look expensive. Layering is a great thing as well; sometimes adding a trench coat, a bomber jacket, scarves, etc., to elevate the look. It adds a little razzle-dazzle to the fit. Just build onto it, be bold and extra. Most importantly, have fun with it.

In what ways does what you wear influence how you carry yourself throughout the day? Can you describe a look that made you feel particularly confident or grounded?

One of my favorite sayings is in my bio: Modesty doesn’t have to be boring! Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always been into fashion. I’m a proud, confident Muslim woman. & kudos to my parents for never limiting my creativity and putting me in a box due to religion. So, I would say the way I dress is the way I carry myself.

I’m a strong, classy, confident, unique woman with a bubbly personality — I think my style shows that. When I walk into the room, my presence is going to introduce me before I open my mouth. There’s just an energy you’re going to feel around me. I have so many looks that make me feel confident. But if I had to choose, I’d say my most recent look. I did for Culture Con this year. I wore Naked Wardrobe, a black & white houndstooth suit, and I got so many compliments.

Showcasing modesty, but having an edge with fashion. When people think of fashion, they may not think of a Hijabi, but when you see me, trust & believe you will know, I am fashion.

How do you approach blending modesty, elegance, and streetwear without sacrificing comfort or self-expression?

In anything that I wear, I always blend being modest & my creativity in my style. Be bold & confident. I feel like I don’t have to sacrifice my comfort because I’m confident in who I am. If I like something, I’m going to wear it. You have to be happy with yourself; if you can’t be happy with yourself, you’re living in this false narrative. So in life, I always try to be true to myself, and that’s in all aspects.

What guidance would you offer to someone looking to elevate their wardrobe using pieces they already own?

My advice would be SHOP in your closet! Cause most of the time we have pieces hidden in there that you probably forgot all about. You just have to know how to reinvent & restyle what you already have in many different ways. Try new things, maybe wear more colors, prints, and go heavy on the accessories. Sometimes step out of your comfort zone, sometimes when it comes to style.

Jumunaah reminds us that ‘Elevated Streetwear’ and modesty aren’t mutually exclusive. When she enters a room, she does it with confidence, and everyone admires her aura. This is what happens when you are comfortable in the clothes you wear. If you are struggling with wearing the hijab, try to make it more personal to you.

So this month’s challenge? Try to dress a little outside your comfort zone, into a more relaxed, stylish, and loose outfit. Play with texture, colors, and shape.

Here’s how to get started:

Goal: Style streetwear clothing in a way that feels polished, intentional, and modest - without losing personality and uniqueness.

  • Coverage is key: NO Crop tops, sheer pieces without layering, or extreme cutouts. Wear tops that fully cover your awrah.

  • Oversized/Baggy Base requirements: Graphic tees, track pants, hoodies, bomber jackets, edgy sneakers, cargo pants, and denim are a few suggestions.

  • How to elevate it:

    • Wear a trench coat or blazer.

    • Accessorize, of course! Sunglasses, a leather bag, gold or silver jewelry, and you can even add a belt.

    • Pay attention to the fabric: go for wool, leather, silk, satin.

    • Footwear matters: Sneakers must look intentional (clean, cool designs/ drawings, or an interesting shape). You can swap for loafers, boots, or mules for extra elevation.

Outfit Ideas:

  • Turtle neck with graphic tee

  • Basic shirt paired with a bottom with fringes

Take a pic, explain, and show us how you came out of your comfort zone. What does “I am fashion” mean to you? Tag us @veiledvisionaries_ so we can spotlight your looks this month.
