Women’s Empowerment+ Basketball + Sisterhood
Every year, it’s like everyone’s New Year’s resolution is to hit the gym and get active. Oh, baby, this year, we took that goal seriously! Veiled Visionaries partnered with W.A.K.E (Women and Kids Empowerment) for an MLK Day Girls Empowerment Basketball Camp & Women’s Wellness Event. It was a powerful gathering that celebrated confidence, leadership, and community for girls and women through sport and storytelling. We created a space for girls and women to use their voices, build confidence, and move with purpose.
So, on January 19, 2026, we wasted no time and got active with our VeiledBesties and the W.A.K.E team.
AND THE BEST PART IS…. THE EVENT WAS FREE!

The event was located at the Reverend T. Wendell Foster Recreation Center @ 1020 Jerome Avenue, Bronx, NY, 10452.

Veiled Visionaries coordinated two types of events. One for the youth and the other for the adults. These include:

At the core of this partnership, we wanted to build community, but also encourage being physically active in the community through fun games that require teamwork and strategy.
Not many muslim women are placed into the spotlight when you think of basketball. It’s good to branch out and try sports that you may not be comfortable with. We all want to have fun at the end of the day. Why not do it with our VeiledBesties?
